James Walker Marine Transportation has been established to focus on the supply of fluid sealing products and associated services to the marine transportation sector.
Its staff of marine industry sealing experts will work through James Walker’s global network of companies and distributors. The network already sells to over 100 countries and around 1000 ports that handle vessels in excess of 3000dwt.
Most customers in this sector rely heavily on e-commerce and e-catalogues, so James Walker has invested in IT infrastructure that efficiently meets their global logistical demands.
Explained James Walker Group chairman and chief executive Peter Needham: “Our sealing products are used extensively by the marine sector — from small work boats and lifeboats up to the largest tankers, Ro-Ro ferries, cruise liners and bulk carriers.
“We have created James Walker Marine Transportation to ensure that all levels of marine operation around the globe get the very best possible service that we can provide.”
JWMT aims to establish longterm partnering contracts with major marine operators for the global supply of products under fixed pricing structures. It will fully support ships at sea, ship builders, repairers and chandlers — as well as tank container cleaning stations, operators, manufacturers and repair depots.
Marine products
The group has a vast range of marine-oriented sealing products. This includes Metaflex® spiral wound gaskets, a wide selection of sheet jointings, Walkersele® radial lip seals, Tankatite® tank lid seals, and a large array of gland packings, expansion joints, bellows and hydraulic seals.
For the tank container industry, James Walker has developed a range of Fluolion® PTFE-based products — such as the patented Halo manlid seal and special high specification gaskets.
Tico® pipework supports and Treadmaster® anti-slip deck coverings are also produced within James Walker Group.
Dedicated services
On the engineering side, all makes of pump, valve, mechanical seal and hydraulic equipment are refurbished to good-as-new condition by workshops in the Netherlands, Singapore and UK.
For customers’ convenience, James Walker maintains a full library of charts giving details of its own items against OEM part numbers for various diesels, separators and compressors.
Its technologists also work closely with the design engineers of marine equipment manufacturers, to develop sealing products that can be used with confidence in all areas of marine activity.
History of marine service
James Walker has been a world-leading supplier of sealing products and services to commercial and naval fleets since the company was founded near London Docklands by Scottish engineer Mr James Walker in the 1880s with his innovative Lion® Brand High Pressure Steam Packing.
Today, thousands of vessels rely on James Walker’s fluid sealing technology and fast-track service to keep them operational — as does virtually every other industry sector.
