Expansion in China to target niche markets

James Walker has confirmed its commitment to industry in China with the establishment of a new office at Shanghai, plus the first three distributors to cover specific niche markets for high performance fluid seals and associated products.
Explained Tony Parrett, Asia/Pacific director for James Walker Sealing Products & Services: "The Chinese market is huge, with industrial activity growing at a phenomenal rate, and competition is extremely tough".
Over 60 international and local companies are already offering fluid sealing products, therefore it is extremely important that we develop a competitive advantage through a well planned strategy.

Distributor support
James Walkers strategy is to target those industrial markets where it has world-leading products and expertise. To achieve this, it is working in close liaison with local companies that can promote the products and sell their benefits to end users and original equipment manufacturers.
"Each of these three companies is an expert in a specific industrial sector", said Tony Parrett. "Our long-standing distributor, Shanghai Kinsson Equipment, services the metallurgical sector, whereas Tecway International Marine covers the marine industries. KS Equipment, whose Singapore parent has been working with us for years, is targeting the oil and gas sector.
"Other market sectors are under review and will be developed in a similar way."
This approach is proving highly successful, with James Walker supporting the local companies through research, consultation and training - plus its Web Customers information system and highly developed logistics network.

Chinese engineers visit UK
The activities of James Walker distributor Shanghai Kinsson Equipment in the metallurgical sector have led to four engineers from China First Heavy Industries (CFHI) visiting James Walkers manufacturing facilities in Cockermouth.
The engineers are working for CFHIs Dalian Design & Research Institute on a major plate mill project for Wuyang Iron & Steel.
"It was very pleasing to welcome our Chinese guests. Ms Shi had promised to pay us a visit when we met in China last year", said Chris Pownall, JWs metallurgical industry manager.
The engineers showed great interest in our Walkersele® range of rotary lip seals and wished to see the various production processes involved.
