James Walker takes the heat in Oman

James Walker Torrlid compression packing is building a big lead on the  competition. On one job in particular that lead is currently 8km and growing with each order!
James Walker has recently secured three orders through Turk Mechanicals in Bahrain, the current maintenance contractor for the Sohar Aluminium plant in Oman, which claims to have the longest single pot line in the world. Each order has required 2670m of Torrlid crucible lid packing.
Torrlid 162B is a highly specialised compression packing with a resilient EP elastomer core overbraided with a jacket of filament glass yarns and coated with silicone rubber.
Developed specifically as a vacuum seal for aluminium crucible lids, the product readily withstands the abrasion, temperatures and compressive forces involved under operational conditions.
Sohar Aluminium, with its 1.2km long 360 pot production line, which started operation in June 2008, was the first company to use the latest  best-in-class AP35 technology, considered the most advanced, efficient and environment-friendly aluminium smelting process in the world.
The AP35 technology generates a higher yield from larger pots and higher current —  2,700kg per pot per day.
As such, Sohar Aluminium is able to produce high grade aluminium at a lower operating cost than many older competitors.
Despite the world economic climate, the plant will be operating at full capacity and is on track to produce 350,000t of aluminium in the next 12 months.
