Description
Shieldseal® 561 is one of our world-beating range of lead-free elastomers specifically developed for shielding X-ray and gamma radiation. It is based on an ethylene-propylene (EPDM) elastomer, with specially formulated (lead-free) metallic fillers evenly dispersed throughout its structure.
Typical applications
Wherever an inherently elastic and resilient flexible seal is needed to prevent shine paths in active areas, including flange joints, door seals, pipe wrapping and protective garments.
Specifications
Please contact James Walker's Technical Services Team for full details of evaluation work carried out by independent test house Centronic Raditec.
Special features
Typical properties of Shieldseal® 561
Hardness: 80 IRHD
Shielding efficiency: 2.4mm thickness of Shieldseal® 561 has same shielding efficiency as 1mm of lead.
Chemical properties: Excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals; also resistant to atmospheric ageing.
(Note: Separate literature is available containing full details of third-party tests.)
How supplied
Shieldseal® 561 is available as 'O' rings, custom mouldings, sheets and precision cut gaskets. We are also willing to partner with equipment manufacturers and end-users of shielding elastomers to develop, prototype and evaluate materials or specific components for custom applications.
In addition, attenuation properties for specific applications can be customised within certain constraints to meet special requirements: eg, to give a thickness of 1.8mm of Shieldseal that has the same shielding efficiency as 1mm of lead.
