Origin of CICIND
Engineers worldwide expressed a growing desire for an exchange of experiences and for harmonisation of the relevant existing national codes and technical practices. In the field of chimneys, this prompted M Diver of Paris to take the initiative to form an international des Cheminees Industrielles - CICIND, was established in 1973.
Purpose of CICIND
- To promote knowledge about the design, construction and use of chimneys.
- To stimulate the harmonisation of National Chimneys Design Codes.
- To organize international chimney meetings and congresses.
- To publish books and documents on chimneys.
- To sponsor research.
Organisation
CICIND is an independent association. It is composed of individual members as well as members representing Companies and other organisations.
CICIND members represent chimney owners, chimney builders, consulting engineers, research institutes, suppliers, subcontractors and trade organisations.
Sub committees
CICIND has several sub committees that are established to carry out certain duties like producing model codes. Bill Evans chairs the subcommittee for seals and expansion joints within chimneys.
