History of James Walker Townson
The formation of James Walker Townson on 3rd September 2003, by the merger of Townson Ltd and the Bellows Division of James Walker & Co Ltd, created the UK's leading specialist company in the design, manufacturer and installation of flexible expansion joints and bellows for industrial plant.
Townson boasts a 75 year history of service to industry, initially in metal fabrication and later with elastomers and advanced polymers. Managing director Bill Evans has specialised in expansion joints for over 25 years and introduced the technology to Townson in 1990.
James Walker has been a world leader in fluid sealing technology since the 1880s. Its expansion joint business was formed in the 1960s in liason with Tico Manufacturing Ltd, which became a member of the James Walker Group in 1985.
James Walker Townson operates with existing management and enlarged workforce at its factory site in Alexandra Street, Hyde. James Walker's ranges of flexible bellows and Comflex expansion joints have been amalgamated with Townson's product ranges. New regional offices of James Walker Townson at Woking and Dubai are set to provide sales and technical support.
The synergy created by the merger will provide new levels of technical expertise, manufacturing capability and service quality that customers will appreciate.
The mainstays of the new company's business are multilayered flexible expansion joints for high temperature ductwork and quickwrap materials. It is also building on other successful product lines including flexible protectors, connectors, chimney seals, rubber and metallic expansion joints.
