The Position
James Walker, Gourock is looking to recruit a Despatch Clerk, the successful candidate will report directly to the Senior Logistics Co-ordinator. The Despatch Clerk will be responsible for the efficient despatch of all goods and handle associated administration tasks, which include moving and shipping of supplies, stock and materials, and ensuring the department runs smoothly.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensuring that all items to be despatched are packed safely and securely for storage, transportation, and arrival to the end customer
  • Ensuring all items are packaged cost effectively and highlight any issues or anomalies at the earliest opportunity to rectify problems such as damages, shortages
  • Ensuring all customer orders are shipped accurately and contain the required quantity of parts
  • Liaising daily and closely with the Senior Logistics Co-ordinator who will arrange carrier uplift of items & packages
  • Daily interaction with external carriers who will be uplifting goods and ensuring the correct items are uplifted by the correct carriers
  • Using the companies ERP system in order to maintain accurate stock, expenditure and shipping information at all times
  • Keep work area and department clean, safe and organised at all times
  • Learn and adhere to shipping/receiving and regulatory-compliance procedures
  • Assist with despatch of freight for delivery and arrangements of pickups
  • Complete safety reports in relation to health and safety issues
  • Manage Proof of Delivery processing
  • Provide Logistics cover
  • Any other ad hoc duties the company deems necessary and appropriate

Experience/Qualifications:

Essential Skills

  • Attention to detail and good time management
  • Fork lift licence
  • Previous experience in ERP system
  • Team player
  • Customer focus

Preferred Skills

  • Full driver’s license
  • Previous logistics experience
