Rio Tinto won over by Total Cost of Ownership

From small beginnings come great things…

For a number of years James Walker has served Rio Tinto factories in the UK and France with a range of products and technical assistance including compression packings, Walkersele® and hydraulic seals but now, thanks to a combination of the proven service provided to these sites and a considerable amount of hard work put in by the James Walker contracts team, a new, extended contract has been secured.

Industry giant

Rio Tinto Alcan is one of the world's largest producers of bauxite, alumina and aluminium and the aluminium industry's new global leader, a position reinforced by its benchmark smelting technology and control over its supply pipeline.

The new contract will see James Walker servicing an additional 15 Rio Tinto Alcan plants in Europe and Africa. In partnership with the client's local purchasing and technical personnel, our commercial and engineering teams will initially work to implement a programme of product and process reviews.

Driving improvements and reducing costs

The overall aim of this multi-site international project is to create savings for our customer through lowering the Total Cost of Ownership — a successful James Walker initiative with clients in many different industries. This will be achieved through a combination of factors including extended product life, improved plant performance, reduced maintenance and downtime costs plus improved inventory and logistics.
