IMechE development framework implemented
James Walker & Co has met the criteria needed to implement the professional development framework of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
The IMechE framework is a detailed process that allows engineers to achieve accreditation for their professional development status, such as Chartered Membership, through on-going training, mentoring and monitoring in their work environment.
Explains JW’s strategic research director, Alan Bickley: “This is an integral part of our commitment to making our people the best that they can be. It is also an essential factor in building the high levels of service and support we provide to our customers.
After a formal assessment by the IMechE, a recommendation was put before the institution’s Professional Standards Committee, and full accreditation status was granted. The assessment was based on four key areas: Company commitment, Scheme arrangements, Line managers and mentors, and Developing engineers.
During the assessment, Robert Cox and Myrto Matzakou, two young engineers on the JW scheme, were complimented for being highly articulate, very motivated, and giving good examples of the level of support and training provided by James Walker & Co.
Alison Cunningham, JW’s human resources manager, commented: “The IMechE professional development framework provides a great opportunity for our developing engineers, and reinforces our commitment to investing in people while raising performance standards across the business”.
