Your Role
James Walker are looking to recruit an Apprentice Electrical Maintenance Technician. This role will be based within the Engineering Department at the Cockermouth Manufacturing Business Unit.

The full time working hours are 37 per week on days and the annual salary is £19,350.00 per annum.

During your apprenticeship, you will be released to attend College on a day release basis, working towards your Level 3 qualification. It is anticipated this course will take 42 months to achieve.

As an Apprentice Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will support the Electrical Maintenance Team in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of electrical systems and production equipment across the site. You will work alongside experienced technicians and assist with fault finding, diagnosis and repair of electrical, control, automation systems, responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned maintenance and contributing to continuous improvement activities to help improve plant reliability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the electrical maintenance team with plant breakdowns during shift.
  • Support to diagnose and rectify faults across:
  • Electrical distribution systems (LV)
  • Motors, drives and motor control centres
  • Instrumentation and sensors
  • Machine safety circuits
  • Assist the electrical maintenance team to restore plant to service safely and efficiently following failures.
  • Assist in carrying out PLC interrogation and diagnostics to support fault finding and root cause identification.
  • Support in executing planned maintenance tasks in line with the CMMS (Agility).
  • Identify deteriorating assets and escalate reliability risks.
  • Work strictly in accordance with electrical safety and compliance.
  • Support cross-discipline working with mechanical and production teams.
  • Contribute to shift handovers, breakdown reports, and defect escalation.
  • Maintain discipline in documentation, tagging, and equipment labelling.


About you

Preferred Skill & Experience

  • Previous work experience or coursework in engineering or related fields.
  • Microsoft Office Tools Familiarity.

Essential Skill & Experience

  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good IT skills.

Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications

  • AS/ A Levels.
  • Qualification in an engineering related discipline.

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade C/ Level 4 or above in required core GCSE’s (Maths, English and Science).
