Your Role
The Day Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and effective operation of electrical systems and production plant during shift operation.

The postholder will carry out independent fault finding, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, control, and automation systems, responding to breakdowns, executing planned maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement of plant reliability.

The role operates under the site Electrical Safety Rules and Permit-to-Work system, with technical accountability escalating to the Site Electrical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

Day based Senior (PPM) Electrical Maintenance & Fault Response Core Responsibilities

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Carry out regular, scheduled checks and servicing on electrical panels, 3-phase systems, motors, and distribution networks to stop breakdowns before they happen.
  • Reactive Breakdown Repairs: Respond quickly to plant stoppages or equipment failures to minimize costly production downtime.
  • Fault Finding & Diagnostics: Use technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot PLC systems (like Siemens or Allen Bradley), inverter drives, and control circuits.
  • Compliance & Testing: Maintain site safety standards by performing fixed wire testing, PAT testing, and servicing fire or emergency lighting systems.
  • Documentation: Log all completed PPM tasks, equipment condition reports, and parts used into a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Project Support: Help install, commission, and test new machinery or plant upgrades safely
  • Independently diagnose and rectify faults across:

o Electrical distribution systems (LV)

o Motors, drives, and motor control centres

o Instrumentation and sensors

o Machine safety circuits

  • Restore plant to service safely and efficiently following failures.
  • Involved in Root Cause investigation

PLC Diagnostics & Control Systems Support

  • Carry out PLC interrogation and diagnostics to support fault finding and root cause identification.
  • Interpret PLC logic, I/O status, and alarms to isolate electrical or control faults.

  • Work alongside Technical Support Engineers or the Site Electrical Engineer for complex or repeat control issues.
  • No unauthorised software changes to PLC programs unless formally approved.

Planned & Preventative Maintenance

  • Execute planned maintenance tasks in line with the CMMS (Agility).
  • Provide technical feedback to improve PM effectiveness and eliminate repeat failures.
  • Identify deteriorating assets and escalate reliability risks.

Electrical Safety & Compliance

  • Work strictly in accordance with Electrical Safety Rules, Permit-to-Work (PTW), LOTO systems, Site risk assessments and method statements
  • Verify isolations before work and maintain isolation integrity throughout tasks.
  • Stop work and escalate immediately where unsafe conditions are identified.

Support the shift & Team Contribution

  • Provide technical guidance to Electrical shift Engineers, Apprentices and junior staff
  • Support cross-discipline working with mechanical and production teams.
  • Contribute to breakdown reports and defect escalation.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately record all work undertaken within the CMMS.
  • Complete fault reports and contribute to failure investigations where required.
  • Maintain discipline in documentation, tagging, and equipment labelling.

About you

Preferred Skill & Experience

  • Call-out rota participation
  • Exposure to TPM or reliability improvement activities
  • Experience supporting commissioning or plant modifications

Essential Skill & Experience

  • Industrial / manufacturing electrical maintenance experience
  • Independent and teamwork breakdown fault finding on production plant

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inspection & Testing qualification (2391 / equivalent)
  • PLC platform training (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, etc.)

Essential Qualifications

  • HND in Electrical or Control Engineering
  • Level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation (or equivalent)
  • Current BS 7671 Wiring Regulations (18th Edition)
  • Time-served electrical apprenticeship
