Location

The Manufacturing Business Unit is located in the small gem town of Cockermouth just on the edge of the Lake District National Park. The local area is ideal for those who love the outdoors and boasts a range of mountains and fells for those who love an adventure from walking and climbing to mountain biking and abseiling. There are many local attractions and small friendly bars which are a great way to meet new people in the area. We are also within easy travel distance of the city of Carlisle for those who enjoy city life.

Your Role

As part of the Product Engineering Team you will be responsible for developing new products for sealing applications in a range of industry sectors with a strong focus currently on the oil and gas, renewable energy, marine, and nuclear industries.

The working hours are 35 hours per week on days (Monday to Thursday 08.45 am – 5.00 pm, Fridays 08.45 am – 12.45 pm/3.30 pm). The salary will be dependent on skills and experience, please detail your salary expectations on your application.

Key Responsibilities

• Actively participating in the development and design of new products for specific markets working closely

with key stakeholder departments.

• Providing technical support to both colleagues and clients and providing advice on seal application and

fitting.

• Supporting the New Product Introduction (NPI) activity and update on projects where you are the Leader.
• Conceptual and final designs of sealing solutions for customer and NPI projects, working to relevant

procedures eg. BS EN 9100: 2018.

• Preparing engineering drawings to a high standard.
• Investigation of seal failures, providing reports on recommendations and corrective action.
• Training Product Technicians and Technical Apprentices and to assist and support them in their technical

development.

• Recognising and interpreting International, National, Customer and Company specifications.
• Producing and assisting in the production of technical material.
• Providing guidance to the Sales Team to understand and observe quality policies, rules and procedures.
• Working amongst cross functional teams in delivering sealing solutions to customers problems and

support the Quality Department.

About you

Essential Skills & Experience

• General CAD design experience, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
• A good working knowledge and understanding of FEA.
• The ability to read and create engineering drawings.
• The ability to interpret and analyse engineering data.
• Practical engineering skills.
• MS Office literate.
• A resilient approach and go the extra mile to improve standards and performance.
• A strong customer focus attitude.
• Excellent communication skills along with the ability to build great relationships.
• The willingness and enthusiasm to embrace change look at new ways of working.

Preferred Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional membership (e.g., IMechE).

Essential Qualifications

• A HNC or above in an engineering related discipline (or equivalent).
