The Position
We are currently looking to recruit one Product Stream Technician on a permanent contract. This role will be within the Configuration Department based at the Manufacturing Business Unit in Cumbria.
In this role you will work 35 hours per week on day shift (Monday to Thursday 08.45 am – 5.00 pm and Fridays 08.45 am – 12.45 pm/ 3.30 pm worked alternate weeks).

Key Responsibilities
- To assist and train team members in the interpretation of customers’ requirements, and in the selection of the most appropriate product to satisfy these requirements.
- To ensure that where there is a choice of suitable technical solutions, products, or route to manufacture, the most appropriate solution balancing operational and commercial aspects for the particular circumstances is selected.
- To clearly understand when more detailed technical support is required, and to seek assistance from the most appropriate “Technically Competent” member of the Company’s Technology Centre Team or Sales Company Applications Engineering Team to resolve the query.
- To ensure that any systems and processes associated with the role comply with both Company policy and relevant legislation.
- To make product and material selection recommendations or vet stated operating conditions on customer enquiries based upon published literature and in house product selection systems e.g. Colmis
- To give, and where necessary, seek advice on manufacture capability.
- To carry out other configuration-related duties, and assist in other appropriate tasks, wherever the opportunity arises due to fluctuations in the number of technical queries received.
- To train others on JW product range, part recognition, internal information sources, methods of manufacture and mould/tool selection.
- To provide guidance such that colleagues understand and observe all applicable Company technical, quality and product liability policies, rules and procedures, and to set a good personal example in their observance.
About you

- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, including customers, in writing and over the telephone.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet business needs, customer needs and changes in processes.
- Ability to work unsupervised and within a team.
Experience / Qualifications:
Essential
- A level qualification, one of which must be in Mathematics.
- Experience providing a technical service support to customers.
- Ability to understand and interpret customer requirements.
- Experience making product and material recommendations ensuring the most appropriate technical solution is selected.
Preferred
- An engineering related degree.
- Good knowledge of the product range.
- Ability to read drawings, and produce rough outline sketches.
- An understanding of James Walker’s Quality and Product Liability and Product Safety policies and procedures.
- Experience in using CAD/ Inventor Software.
- Manufacturing experience.
