Rotary sealing materials

A selection of materials specifically formulated to meet the high performance demands of rotary sealing applications in the metallurgical industry.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
  • Metallurgical
  • Rotary equipment

To support our customers' requirements for high performance materials to withstand today's higher levels of abrasion, higher temperatures and higher constant running speeds we have developed a range of materials formulated to enhance performance in the required areas and are suitable for self-retaining seals or for seals where housings are fitted with retaining plates.

We can provide a seal material optimised for mill set up, water quality, running speed and operating temperatures that will optimise seal performance to match your mill maintenance schedules.

Our products continue to demonstrate that a good quality nitrile (NBR) material works well in most rolling mill applications. However Millglide HNBR offers a significant improvement where performance needs to be assured across more demanding mill conditions.

  • Improved wear resistance over nitrile
  • Abrasion resistant
  • Superior resistance to higher temperatures than nitrile material

Maximum surface speed: Up to 15 m/s (2953 fpm) with Walkersele D6 profile design.

Media compatibility: Excellent resistance to a wide range of mineral and synthetic lubricants.

Seal construction: Flexible back of Elast-O-Lion HNBR-proofed aramid / glass fabric. Lip of enhanced hydrogenated nitrile.

Maximum under lip temperature: +150°C (+302°F) constant, or +170°C (+338°F) constant in oil.

This is a highly modified, high strength hydrogenated nitrile elastomer. The compound includes specially designed additives that extend the material’s performance envelope making it suited to both abrasive and higher speed applications.

  • Formulated for higher running speeds
  • Abrasion resistant
  • Extended life - reduced lifetime cost

Maximum surface speed: Up to 25 m/s (4922 fpm) with Walkersele D6 profile design.

Media compatibility: The compound retains the excellent resistance to a wide range of mineral and synthetic lubricants offered by HNBR materials.

Seal construction: Flexible back of Elast-O-Lion HNBR-proofed aramid / glass fabric. Lip of reformulated hydrogenated nitrile.

Maximum under lip temperature: +150°C (+302°F) constant; or +170°C (+338°F) constant in oil.

Walkersele Ultraglide is based on a reformulated hydrogenated nitrile (HNBR) material, with optimised properties that greatly extend the working life of Walkersele radial lip seals when running for long periods under hot and abrasive conditions.

  • Far greater abrasion resistance for highly extended sealing life
  • Low coefficient of friction for improved running at higher surface speeds
  • Better heat dissipation to keep the lip cooler for high efficiency sealing

Maximum surface speed: Up to 20 m/s (3937 fpm) with Walkersele D6 profile design.

Media compatibility: The compound retains the excellent resistance to all lubricating oils, fuels, air, hot and cold water, dilute acids and alkalis.

Seal construction: Ultraglide K: Flexible back of reformulated HNBR-proofed aramid / glass fibre, with lip of special low-friction, low-wear HNBR. Ultraglide M: Moulded in 80 IRHD reformulated HNBR with a stainless steel band encapsulated in its back.

Maximum under lip temperature: +150°C (+302°F) constant; or +170°C (+338°F) constant in oil.
